How can I get an estimate?

When you decide to set up a new company in Japan, the matter you should be concerned with the most is the establishment costs. You probably want to contact as many judicial scriveners as possible and get estimates from them to find the most cost-effective consultant.

In many cases, however, they tend not to give you an estimate right away.
This is because there are many issues that need to be clarified in advance for a non-Japanese resident to start a business in this country. 

Although you want to get an estimate from at least three or four judicial scriveners as soon as possible, you will be asked the same questions repeatedly and need to answer with the same details over and over to them.

Answer what judicial scriveners want to ask you, ahead of time.

Therefore, my recommendation is to fill in the list below and send it to their email addresses written on the “Contact Us” page of their website.

Incorporation Plan

1. Type of visa that you are processing or planning to obtain, or the fact that you are not planning to live in Japan.
2. Corporate form: Kabushiki-Kaisha/ Godo-Kaisha/ Japanese branch, etc.
   * If you are unsure about which form of corporation to be established:
   You can find a lot of good information on the internet by looking up words such as, “Kabushiki Kaisha” “Godo Kiasha” “Branch” “Japan” “difference”.
3. Location of the Head office
4. Business objectives 
5. Amount of investment
6. Bank account: whether you have an account in Japan
7. Incorporator(s) (person/entity): His/ her nationalities or country of the head office.
8. Business Executor(s):For KK = person, for GK = person/entity

*Note: You do not have to spend much time filling in the entire list.
If there is something you haven’t decided or something that you’re not sure of,  you can keep it as blank or write your enquiries next to that item.

Conclusion 

You will be asked for more detailed information than what is above, at the time when you actually make a request to a specific judicial scrivener. However, the above information is quite sufficient, just to get the estimate, and you may avoid explaining the same things over and over again.
